A new adventure in Nursing Informatics
We have almost reached the end of this class, Nursing 6004. It has been an exciting adventure. I have never taken a computer class before. I learned a lot about how Nursing and Computers, and the internet are inextricably entwined. They are never to be separated. We cannot go onward and upward without informatics. My favorite thing I learned was how to find things I need on the web. We found the Utah State database that reviews the statistics for deaths, ED admissions, hospitalizations, and much more. What a useful tool for our upcoming research. There are also national databases for MVA's and other Highway incidents. We learned more about how to access research from Pub Med, and CINHAL. I found out how important electronic health records are becoming, and how we need to work on accessing evidenced based research in order to improve our practice. Thanks to Susan Cheeseman, DNP and Katherine Sward,PhD, both wonderful instructors, even though I have never met them in person! We have your pictures, though, so if I see you in the College of Nursing, I will say Hi. Mary Jean Walker
